How to Beat Pain by Chris Penlington
Published by Robinson

How to Beat Pain is part of a series of books that aims to make psychological treatments accessible to as many people as possible.

The book describes how patterns of appraisal, avoidance, aversion and association often develop when pain is a problem and can then go on to maintain the pain or make it worse. The book uses stories and examples to show how to recognise and then reverse patterns of responding to pain that have arisen for good reason but are now unhelpful.
Written in a friendly and accessible style, it includes practical worksheets that can be filled out in the book or copies accessed through a free online link that also includes voice recordings of some calming exercises.
Health professionals will also find it useful to support their work with people who experience pain.

How to Beat Pain, by Chris Penlington, price £12.99 is available in bookshops and online.
