A new step for Live Well with Pain

16th June 2026 | Dr Frances Cole

It’s not so many years since Live Well with Pain consisted of a couple of healthcare practitioners sharing a few self-produced PDFs with colleagues. We wanted to spread the word that self-management of chronic pain is not only possible, but preferable to the array of (largely ineffective) medicines which at that time often seemed to be the only option when patients came to us with pain that was blighting their lives.

We knew what was needed was a combination of knowledge, skills, tools and resources to support practitioners, so they could promote self-management with their patients. Over the next few years Live Well with Pain emerged as the vehicle to help us deliver this.
To say LWWP has grown in the intervening period would be an understatement. Our collection of free resources is now among the most extensive in the country. Our accredited training is skilling up hundreds of practitioners every year. And LWWP’s influence has also grown as the healthcare system increasingly embraces self-management as the most effective way to live well with persistent pain.
Now LWWP is moving to a new phase in its development. We have decided to restructure our organisation as a Community Interest Company: Live Well with Pain CIC. This non-profit structure will enable us to consolidate our achievements to date, while providing a stable basis from which to continue developing the resources that so many healthcare professionals rely on to support their work.
The new CIC structure will:
  1. Strengthen the sustainability of LWWP by enabling it to seek new sources of funding
  2. Help ensure LWWP’s valued resources continue to be freely available into the future
  3. The new CIC also creates a strong management structure so that LWWP will be well-placed to grasp emerging opportunities in today’s rapidly changing pain management landscape.
From the point of view of our audience – whether you are a practitioner or someone living with pain – we don’t expect anything will change. We will continue with our mission to provide trusted and useful resources that support effective pain self-management. And we’ll continue ensure those resources remain completely free to use.
In the face of the current economic challenges in healthcare and society at large, we believe this next phase of LWWP’s development will prove to be both prudent and fruitful. We will keep you posted in the coming months as the CIC begins to take shape.
As always, thank you for your continued support. We value your help and input with suggestions of areas that need development or resources.
Finally, if you would like to support the work of LWWP either as a paid trainer or from the perspective of someone with lived experience of pain, please get in touch with us via Claire Packwood or myself.

‘Our new non-profit structure will provide a stable basis from which to continue developing the resources that so many healthcare professionals rely on to support their work.’
