Su has managed chronic pain for 14 years leading to her being medically retired from work. However, she is not one to sit and do nothing.
She established Durham’s Haven Pain Café, which has been operating for eight years and now has 223 members. Since founding the café, Su has become a Lived Experience Trainer with Live Well with Pain, she also serves as the Assistant Regional Coordinator for the North East of England with Fibromyalgia Action UK (FMAUK). Through her work, she now collaborates with local general practitioners and social prescribers, who refer patients to her pain café. Su also delivers the 10 Footsteps to Living Well With pain at her Pain Café among other things.
Su lives in Durham. In her spare time, Su enjoys reading, crafting and walking. Her voluntary work gives her purpose and enjoys all she does.
