Dr Eleanor Holmes is an experienced NHS GP, Chronic Pain Lead, and GP with an Extended Role (GPwER) in Medical Education, Supervision and Training. Eleanor is now working as Training Lead for Live Well With Pain (LWWP), bringing clinical and educational leadership experience from both the North East and South West to this role.
As a GP and Chronic Pain Lead in Weston-Super-Mare, Eleanor has been involved in securing funding from Health Innovation West of England (HIWE) and setting up a successful Pain Cafe Pilot in the locality, using the LWWP 10 Footsteps as a basis for training facilitators and structuring Pain Cafe sessions. These are now being expanded and evaluated by the Chronic Pain HIT and UWE research team led by Associate Professor Dr Jenny Lewis, using RCF funding, which Eleanor is continuing to advise on as a GP. She also has an ongoing role in the Weston Community Pain Service Steering Group.
Eleanor lives in Valencian Country in Spain, where her husband is from and her son was born. Most of her work is undertaken in a remote capacity, with regular visits to the UK for face-to-face Locum GP work and meetings that can’t be undertaken remotely.
Clinically her work is focused on complex chronic pain and mental health, as well as managing complex multi-morbidity and polypharmacy in deprived populations where health inequalities present ongoing challenges.
Eleanor is also a published writer and poet, creative writing workshop facilitator, and has a background in innovation and leadership in the arts and health sector. More about her work in this space can be found on her website: www.dreleanorholmes.com
