Chris Penlington

Chris is a Clinical Psychologist currently working as a lecturer at Newcastle University.

She has worked in multidisciplinary pain management teams since qualifying with a D.Clin.Psych from Newcastle in 2001. Chris has a strong interest how team members with professional and lived experience expertise can work together to support self-management. She also has a research interest in compassion focused interventions in pain management. Chris incorporates a compassion-based approach into much of her clinical work which she developed as an interest when she studied for an MSc in Mindfulness Studies from the University of Aberdeen in 2017.

In addition to her university work Chris has an NHS contract working in a specialist orofacial pain clinic and has published about how psychological therapies can be integrated within routine care for patients with orofacial pain such as temporomandibular disorders (TMD). She is deputy chair of the national NIHR sponsored Orofacial Pain Alliance.
